The institution has a number of changes in name since it was founded in 1885 as the School for Christian Workers.  The name was changed in 1890 to YMCA Training School and the International YMCA Training School one year later.  In 1912 it adopted the name of International YMCA College.  Then in 1954 the name was changed to Springfield College.

Springfield College maintains web page with links to an impressive array of historical resources. One of the pages includes links to seven texts on the institution's history from the Springfield College Digital Collection.

Dr. Dorothy Finnegan, Associate Professor of Higher Education at William & Mary, offers links to several articles that explore the influence of the YMCA and YWCA in higher education.

South Texas College of Law

Mark W. Lambert authored interesting articles available through The Fred Parks Law Library Footnotes Newsletter Online. Vol. 15, no. 1 includes a list of law books used in the curriculum of the Austin College Law Department which operated from 1855-1856 in Huntsville, Texas.

In South Texas College of Law and the Other YMCA Law Schools, vol. 15, no. 2, Lambert offers an overview of one institution in Houston that was affiliated with the YMCA. The article also includes a list of other YMCA affiliated law schools in the United States and an interesting list of additional resources in the Notes section.
