IU was founded as Indiana State Seminary in 1820. The name changed to Indiana College in 1828 and then to Indiana University at Bloomington in 1838.
You can learn more about planned activities or related resources by visiting the IU Bicentennial web pages.
The IU Bicentennial history pages include a timeline and links to essays and podcasts focusing on key events from the institution's past. A number of interesting brief videos are available in a "Bicentennial Minutes" section that includes segments on 19th century student life and IU in the Big Ten. Indian University Press also offers a page with a number of books focusing on different aspects of IU history.
