North Central College acquires Shimer College

North Central College in Naperville, IL announced that it has acquired Shimer College and will continue to support the approach to learning through the Shimer Great Books School.  The announcement concluded an exploratory process that was initiated during the spring of 2016 when Shimer relocated to the North Central campus.

Shimer was founded in 1853 as Mount Carroll Seminary. It was affiliated with the University of Chicago from 1896-1958 and later moved to Waukegan, IL in 1978. Shimer then moved to Chicago in 2006. It was located on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology for several years prior to the move to Naperville and the North Central campus in 2016.
