Remembering Racine-Kenosha Teachers College, 1917-1970
Dustin Safranek of The Journal Times in Racine, WI reports on efforts by Kenosha County and Racine to train teachers in the early 1900s in, "Former Racine-Kenosha Teachers College celebrating centennial." The Racine-Kenosha Teachers College operated from 1917-1970 and was one of twenty-one other teachers colleges across the state offering two year programs. It also had the largest enrollment by the mid-1960s. The institution closed after a decision by the state legislature in 1971 requiring a four year baccalaureate degree for certification.
