Brooks Institute, school for the visual arts in Ventura, CA, will be closing

Arlene Martinez and Jean Cowden Moore reported for the Ventura County Star that Brooks Institute , a school for the visual arts, will be closing in October 2016.

The institution was initially founded by Ernest H. Brooks as Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA in 1945.  The Brooks family retained ownership until 1999 when the school was sold to Career Education Corporation.  It opened a site in Ventura, CA in 2002.  The name was changed in 2007 to Brooks Institute.  Christine Lin, founder and owner of gphomestay purchased Brooks in 2015.

Brooks Institute enrolled roughly 350 students and offered a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Photography, Film and Video Production, Graphic Design or Visual Journalism.  There was also a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and a Master of Science in Scientific and Technology Imaging.

I am also maintaining a file with College Closures Since 2009 for those interested in tracking closures by year.
