History of Tyler Commercial College (TX)

The Tyler (TX) Morning-Telegraph published an article by Emily Guevara, "Training Ground: Tyler Commercial College to be honored for role in educating 75,000 students," on February 28, 2014.  Guevara's historical sketch coincided with the unveiling a historical maker recognizing the service of the institution for over 80 years.
Tyler Commercial College was founded in 1899 and was ultimately purchased by Dallas-based Rutherford Metropolitan School of Business in 1957.  Rutherford later changed its name and closed in 1980.
You can also find more information in a four-part series offered on the Stephen F. Austin University website, "The Rise and Fall of Tyler Commercial College," written by Marvin Mayer.  Other parts in the series can be found at Part II, Part III The Curriculum, and The Conclusion.
