Barry Schwabsky authored a fascinating article that was posted today for the March 14, 2016 issue of The Nation, "The Weirdness and Joy of Black Mountain College: Can the art of teach art be exhibited? No, but people keep trying." Schwabsky starts by noting a number of exhibitions on Black Mountain College in recent years and then moves to consideration of why we have this "...recurring preoccupation with a short-lived, unaccredited school at the back of beyond, which never had enough students to pay its way?" I particularly enjoyed Schwabsky's comments on the large gap between the the promise of Black Mountain College and the practice of higher learning that we now experience in our colleges and universities.
