Cottey College (MO)

A fascinating Ph.D. dissertation written by Mary Rhodes, Dried flowers : the history of women's culture at Cottey College, 1884-1965, was submitted to the Graduate School of The Ohio State University in 1981. Her study focuses on women's culture from the perspective of Cottey College, a unique women's college in Missouri, founded in 1884. Cottey was linked by 1927 with the international women's organization, The P.E.O. Sisterhood. Rhodes concludes that the women's culture which thrived in the first half century steadily gave way to dominant male cultural values.
