Buard History Trail features Wiley College and Bishop College in Marshall, TX

An article on February 28, 2015 in the Longview, TX News-Journal by Amy Pearson highlights a new documentary on the Buard History Trail.  While the trail has existed since 2008, the new film refocuses attention on the contributions of African Americans to the history of Marshall, TX and the surrounding area.  Two of the historic sites feature higher education institutions, Wiley College founded in 1873 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and Bishop College founded by the Baptist Home Mission Society in 1881.  While Wiley College still operates in Marshall, Bishop College moved to Dallas, TX in 1961 and ultimately closed in 1988.

The documentary on the Buard History Trail is available on YouTube in two segments.  Part 1-A Field Trip Through History includes images of Wiley and Bishop College and their founders.
Part 2-Eyewitnesses to History focuses on a local teacher and historian, Rebecca Buard, and community efforts to create the driving trail that bears her name.
