Utica College has now changed its name to Utica University. The name change comes after the New York state Board of Regents changing the definition of university earlier in 2022.
The institution was founded as a branch campus of Syracuse University in 1946 to serve veterans, looking to better their lives through higher education, after returning from World War II. Utica received its independent charter in 1995 and operates as a comprehensive, independent, private institution.
