The institution was founded as Piedmont Bible Institute in 1945. The name changed to Piedmont Bible College in 1948 and to Piedmont Baptist College prior to 2006. A merger with Atlantic Baptist Bible College of Chester, VA occurred in 2008. The name change again to Piedmont International University in 2012. Piedmont merged with Southwestern Bible College of Birmingham, AL in 2017 and with John Wesley University of High Point, NC in 2018.
