College of New Rochelle Indicates Closure is Likely

Several news outlets are indicating this afternoon that the College of New Rochelle will apparently close.  Mark Lungariello reports for the Rockland/Westchester Journal News in "College of New Rochelle likely to close after summer 2019, letter to community says."

Lungariello included an excerpt from a letter signed by Marlene Tutera, interim board of trustees president, and William Latimer, president, "At this point in time, it appears unlikely that the College will be able to continue operations beyond the end of the summer 2019 semester," a letter to the college community said on Friday.  He also provides an overview of financial issues the institution has faced in recent years.

You can also read more in the New Rochelle Daily Voice, "College Of New Rochelle Closure Seen As Likely."
The institution was founded as the College of St. Angela in 1904 and the name was changed to the College of New Rochelle in 1910.  You can find a brief historical sketch on the college website.

If you are interested in recent trends for closures, mergers, and acquisitions access College Closures since 2009 in the index at the right of any College History Garden page. There are separate tabs for non-profit closures, for-profit closures, and one for mergers and acquisitions. Each tab includes basic information for the institutions, i.e., Carnegie Classification, sector, accrediting agency, and the IPEDS unitid.
