A Brief History of the founding of East Lansing and Michigan State University
The State News published "History of MSU: East Lansing grows up with its university," on June 29, 2016. The article by Isaac Constans provides an interesting historical overview of the decision to locate a higher education institution, the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, near the capital of Lansing. Constans traces the growth of the institution after it opened in 1857 and the city from their humble beginnings. He also references Michigan Female College, founded in 1855.
