The National Trust for Historic Preservation designated Howard University's Founders Library as a national treasure. The trust will also be working with Howard to develop a strategy for renovation of the building to insure that it will continue to serve as an important campus resource. The library opened in 1939 and Danielle Douglas-Gabriel provides a number of examples of the building's historical significance in her article on February 29, 2016 for the Washington Post.
