Kristen Dalton's article on September 12, 2015 on Staten Island Advance's SILive site featured a story from April 10, 1970 on plans at Notre Dame College in Staten Island remain open.
Notre Dame College was operated by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame. The institution was founded in 1903 as an academy offering both an elementary and high school education for young women. In 1928, they began offering college courses for women as an extension of Fordham University. Notre Dame ultimately merged with St. John's University and now serves as the Staten Island campus of St. John's. SILive also offers another article featuring the history of the college on August 5, 2012 by Thomas Matteo, "Staten Island's Notre Dame College stood tall on the hill."
The Congregation of Notre Dame continues to operate Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island.
