Jon Elliston reports for the Carolina Public Press that Black Mountain College was investigated on a couple of occasions by the FBI during the 1950's prior to the closing of the institution in 1957. Elliston reviewed recently declassified files and notes that while the Bureau ultimately concluded that no further investigation was needed, the distraction no doubt contributed to the closing.
