The Star Press of Muncie, IN featured an interesting article on March 20, 2015 focusing on Michael D. Kelly. Kelly was president of Muncie Normal Institute and later, Muncie National Institute, two of several attempts to provide higher education in the city in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The property sat idle for a time and was ultimately acquired by the Ball family, who donated it to the State of Indiana in 1918. It served as the foundation on which the current Ball State University was built.
The article by Seth Slabaugh, is part of a larger project with many historical photographs honoring Muncie's sesquicentennial.
