Mid-Continent traces its history to a group of pastors affiliated with the West Kentucky Baptist
Association who decided in 1947 to found West Kentucky Baptist Bible Institute in
Clinton, KY. Initial classes were held
at the First Baptist Church of Clinton in January 1949. The institution moved in 1951 to a campus on
the northern outskirts of Clinton. The
institution moved to North 15th Street in Mayfield, KY in August 1957 and the
name was changed to the Baptist Bible Institute. The name was changed to Mid-Continent Baptist
Bible College in June 1965. A new campus
was constructed following a donation of land in 1972. The name was changed to Mid-Continent College
in 1998 and in January 2004, to Mid-Continent University.
