KLTV reported on September 3, 2013 that representatives of the former Lon Morris College are suing a former president and board members. The institution was affiliated with the Methodist Church and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
Lon Morris was founded in 1854 as New Danville Masonic Female Academy near Kilgore, TX. It moved in 1873 into Kilgore as Alexander Institute and became part of East Texas Conference of Methodist Episcopal Church, South two years later. Then in 1894 it moved again to Jacksonville to property of the Sunset Academy and operated under name of Alexander Collegiate Institute. A junior college curriculum was offered after 1909 and the name changed to Lon Morris College in 1924.
