Yankton College (South Dakota) #2

The Sioux City Journal posted an article by John Quinlan on June 5, 2011 that describes current activity on the former campus of Yankton College.

Yankton College was founded by Dr. Joseph Ward, a Congregational minister in 1872. The institution initially operated as an academy and in 1881 became the first institution of higher learning in the Dakota Territory which then included North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Yankton College closed Dec. 17, 1984 due to financial difficulties. Four years later it became the site of the Yankton Federal Prison Camp.

A previous post links to a December 2009 article in the Yankton Press & Dakotan highlighting activities of Yankton College alumni.
