Monticello College (IL)
Griffith A. Hamlin authored an excellent history, Monticello: The Biography of a College. An institution for women in Godfrey, IL, the college was founded as Monticello Female Seminary in 1838 and the last class graduated in 1971. Many historical photographs of students and campus life are integrated within the text, published in 1976. Appendices include a list of principals/presidents, members of the board of trustees, and lists of faculty and officers of the institution. After closing, the campus became the home of Lewis and Clark Community College.
