Fascinating New Podcast: Collegeland

While the Collegeland podcast isn't focused on college history, it is a fascinating podcast if you enjoy learning more about higher education.

This latest episode 9: Tales of a Campus Housekeeper features an interview with Tracy Harter, a campus housekeeper. The interview is amazing in many ways as she describes the role she plays in supporting students, her frustrations from dealing with administrators during the early months of the pandemic, and the emotions she felt when witnessing the removal of Silent Sam at UNC.

Collegeland is co-hosted by professors Nan Enstad and Lisa Levenstein and they highlight often overlooked aspects of higher education institutions. Dartmouth Preparing for 250th Anniversary

Dartmouth in Hanover, NH is preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1769. The anniversary web page provides information on scheduled events, a short YouTube video, "Dartmouth 250: Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future," and other resources.

A new book, Dartmouth Undying: A Celebration of Place and Possibility, edited by David Shribman and Jim Collins is available now for pre-order.

There will also be a “Hindsight is 20/19,” 26-episode podcast series celebrating Dartmouth’s history. Library staffers and students identified 25 tangible pieces, one per decade, central to the institution's history and will begin offering podcast episodes on each item in January 2019. History of HBCUs: Article and podcast at American RadioWorks

American RadioWorks featured several podcasts as part of their Living Legacy series on Black Colleges in the 21st Century.  Samara Freemark authored a post on their website to accompany the segment on "The history of HBCUs in America" that includes links to the podcasts on iTunes.

Reflections on Lutheran Higher Education featured by The Pietist Schoolman

The Pietist Schoolman features a podcast July 30, 2015 with Dan Hanson offering a Lutheran perspective on higher education. Hanson reflects on the difference between a “college of the church” and a Christian college, explains why vocation and “faithful criticism” are central to Lutheran higher education, and looks into the future of theological education.

The Medieval University

The BBC In Our Time series offers the podcast from a March 2011 episode on The Medieval University.  Host Melvyn Bragg leads a discussion with Miri Rubin (Professor of Medieval and Early Modern History at Queen Mary, University of London), Ian Wei (Senior Lecturer in Medieval European History at the University of Bristol), and Peter Denley (Reader in History at Queen Mary, University of London).

Indiana University in the 19th Century

Indiana University Libraries offers podcasts that explore student life and culture at the institution in the 19th century.  Topics include the classical model of education, bogus campus publications, literary societies, and student competitions known as scraps.
