Michelle Brooks and Bob Watson reported for the Jefferson City, MO News Tribune on a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of W. Logan Bennett on February 12, 2016 to commemorate the founding of Lincoln University in 1866. Bennett was one of several Civil War veterans who returned to the state and worked to found the institution.
Lincoln's web site includes a brief historical sketch of the institution. The HBCU Library Alliance also offers a number of historical images through their Digital Collection Celebrating the Founding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
